I love to visit new places and revisit places I have enjoyed in the past. The picture of me to the left was taken in 2019 on Prince Edward Island, Canada in the garden adjacent to a tea shop. I have visited many gardens, tea shops, and pubs throughout the world, but this isn’t a blog about those places. It is a blog about memories and my perspective on seeing new places or revisiting the places that matter to me. This blog describes my visits to the 50 states of the United States of America throughout the last 70+ years. Using the guidance of WIlliam Least Heat-moon I try to follow the “blue highways,” or in Robert Frost’s words, “the road less traveled.” Of course it is worth bearing in mind that Frost’s poem was titled “The Road Not Taken.” When reading this blog or any description of travel always remember that choices have been made at every fork in the road. It may well be that one of the roads not taken, one of the places not visited, might have been a better choice. You create good memories on your travels through life by choosing the roads that call to you. Your own good memories of those times then give you a second chance at happiness. At least that is the theory behind why I chose to systematically recount these various adventures, in order to preserve these good memories for myself.
